My slow & eco-adventures continue and this time to the renaissance city of Florence in the region of Tuscany. I decided to take a day trip to Florence from Rome to meet up with my American friend Francisca, founder of BhavaStudio {elegant, ethical and vegan shower}. Traveling to Florence from Rome is pretty easy, straight forward and cheap. I took the train with Italo from Rome Termini Station. I booked the earliest ride at 5.45 am and got there around 7.17 am, just in time for breakfast. The train arrives at the Firenze Santa Maria Novella station right in the city centre. Not far from the station, about a 5-minute walk towards Piazza Santa Maria Novella, I had breakfast at the Shake Cafe Juice Bar. All the ingredients they use come from local producers. In Italy, we use the term KM Zero {Zero kilometers}. It means that the products are not imported from foreign lands but bought from local {or national} producers or farmers. This promotes the local economy, it helps small businesses and the local agriculture.
