Kawaii

Little Japan in Florence

In their own words, a ′reinterpretation′ of the classic sake bar/shop Izakaya, the Italian owners of Kawaii have created an intimate space with clean white lines and a long table adjoining the bar, ideal for a solo or date night out. The little sister to neighbouring Japanese restaurant, Momoyama, Kawaii is quintessential Japanese for a sake-inspired cocktail pre- or post-dinner.

With 30 types of sake on offer plus Japanese beer, whisky, gin and rum, bartenders have Asia-fied the cocktail classics with Sake Negroni (gin, Campari, vermouth, sake) or Tokyo Mule (vodka, ginger beer, sake). They also whip up small plates of Japanese dishes if you fancy a little sashimi paired with your sake.

Why go: if you are craving a night off the local pasta plates

Try: Sake Negroni (of course)

Best for: night owls looking for that one last drink before bedtime
