“What is your most memorable destination and why?”

Florence, Italy, for its art, architecture, and edibles! Wandering its maze-like streets is magical, and exploring galleries like the Uffizi with art by Da Vinci, Caravaggio, Bronzino, and Botticelli is simply mesmerising. Renowned as the birthplace of the Renaissance, it’s worth the visit to ‘meet’ the city’s most famous resident, Michelangelo’s David, at the Accademia and sleep within a 16th-century palace at a chic stay-over like Ad Astra. Come dusk, find a seat at a street side café in Piazza Santo Spirito for a Spritz at sunset.

“What is your best travel tip?”

Order tickets online to avoid the queues. Florence is popular all year round, so save time by securing your entry time to the main galleries in advance. For the best artisan stores and eateries, venture off the main piazza’s to explore the city’s backstreets, where the most authentic venues can be found.

“What is coming up for you?”

I’m heading back to Florence to celebrate the launch of my new book, Lost in Florence, a city guide to the Tuscan capital featuring over 150 curated independent venues. I take you to places beyond the tourist spots, which are ideal for the curious traveller who has the desire to discover the unexpected with added tips and tricks to live like a local in true Italian fashion.
