I′ve always loved books and wanted to be surrounded by paper tomes. So Todo Modo in Florence is my kind of place. It is a boutique bookstore with 15,000 new and used titles in English and Italian, plus cards, wrapping paper, and gifts. The main library room is tucked at the back of the store, with tiered bench-style seating ideal for lounging. All while perusing books or watching regular events, such as performances, concerts, workshops, and monthly spoken-word showcases.
Todo Modo Florence is more than a bookstore
Its in-house cafe, Uqbar, is named in tribute to Argentinian author Jorge Luis Borges. Pop in for coffee and cake – all produce is purchased daily from local greengrocers and bakers—or grab a glass of wine recommended by staff member Davide, an oenologist. In the cafe, you′ll also find a selection of newspapers and magazines. Plus, there is free Wi-Fi, making exploring Florence a great stop.
Why go: For a quiet respite from the city′s cobbled streets
Try: Monthly ′Storytellers′ night for a fun pre-dinner spoken word event
Best for: Bookworms and students looking for a peaceful place to escape
